Fair. 8vo-over 7¾-9¾" tall Book is clean, tight, front board loose and first two pages loose, back board weak. Marbled boards, 1/4 gilt lettered ruled leather. viii, 336 pp with text illustrations. Includes inserted handwritten (and very legible) "Jottings from the Cliniques of Professor Syme". "In the old Edinburgh Infirmary session 1863 Michael Receerley(? ) Dresser to Mr. Syme in 1863." There are two separate handwritten lecture notes, both from 1863. The second is about Pott's Fracture, with hand drawn depiction of the fracture and two hand drawn pictures of the splints. Each is 4 pages. An inserted photo of Syme. Inscribed on flyleaf by Michael Receerley(? ) "Edinburgh 1863--Dresser to Mr. Syme--Clerk to Sir James Limfidon(? )--Clear to Sir Hughes Bennett." It appears that this inscription was written later to identify Syme's Dresser. See Garrison-Morton 5599.
