Four storage structures were designed and developed, one is based on the principle of modified atmosphere, another on evaporative cooling and rest are underground ones. Structure I was based on the principle of modified atmosphere and the structure were constructed by using LDPE (Low density polyethylene) of 50 micron on a wooden frame, where a cement block of 7 cm length and 2 cm breadth dipped in KMnO4 solution is placed inside to absorb ethylene emission by the crop, while, structure II was constructed by using gunny bag ...

Structure I was based on the principle of modified atmosphere and the structure were constructed by using LDPE (Low density polyethylene) of 50 micron on a wooden frame, where a cement block of 7 cm length and 2 cm breadth dipped in KMnO4 solution is placed inside to absorb ethylene emission by the crop, while, structure II was constructed by using gunny bag on a wooden frame and split cut bamboo are placed on the top, filled with water such that droplets through the hole in split cut bamboo fall on the gunny bag, which is a modified version of evaporative cooling chamber. The other two storage structures are underground ones, where the cooling effect comes from soil low temperature.
