Shows how to generate hydrogen by electrolysis, how to convert an internal combustion engine to hydrogen, and how hydrogen can be used in home appliances. Hydrogen fuel may be the ultimate solution to both air pollution and our precarious dependency upon imported oil. Pollution and global warming make it clear that we must replace carbon-based fuels. Electricity applied to water produces hydrogen gas. When burned, hydrogen cleans the air by converting carbon-based pollutants already in the air to safer carbon dioxide and water vapour. By itself, hydrogen only produces water vapour. Hydrogen used in hybrid and fuel cell vehicles can make electric vehicles practical. The electric motor is two to three times more efficient than the internal combustion engine. but can be used to store energy generated by windmills, solar cells, or hydroelectric dams.
