This book is still a classic after 45 years. The notation is a little cumbersome and old-fashioned, some modren examples don't appear, but there isn't another text out there that moves a student from the basics of statistics to useful thermodynamics as quickly and -- may I say -- as quasistatically as does this one.
My used copy still had the original receipt inside, from a bookstore in Berkeley in 1965. It's still in the first edition, but new copies cost a good bit more more than the $11.50 it cost in those days!
