"They have dragg'd him away--he is sent forth for ever! (Cruel men, why decree the griev'd wife to remain!) I heard the base baron that doom'd us to sever, Exclaim with delight, --' They shall meet not again!' Black monster! was this the revenge that you told me So soon should arrive when I hurried from shame? You have robb'd me of bliss, but you still shall behold me, Though broken in spirit, unsullied in fame. How sweet was our cot with its woodbine around it, The sacred asylum of virtue and mirth!
