Reports indicate that some refugees are buying homes; some are opening their own businesses. Many have joined together to help their fellow refugees. They are adjusting their status to permanent resident alien in preparation for u.s. Citizenship. The continued flow of new refugees from the countries of Indochina, however, has prompted the need for ongoing assistance from government at all levels, as well as the voluntary resettlement agencies, sponsors, and communities. Each new refugee faces immense challenges in seeking refuge from oppression in Indochina and in endeavoring to build a new life, in freedom, in the United States.
