This is a practical text presenting methodology for structured parallel program design. The main concern of this text is to introduce and examine factors which will improve general performance and program design in parallel computing. The material is presented in a tutorial style, examining a small number of parallel program structures and their performance characteristics. This is followed by a critical analysis of the state of the art in parallel software development. The central part of the text is the description of the P3L methodology for efficient parallel software development. This methodology allows the programmer to evaluate design decisions before implementation and allow effective parallel program optimizations to be carried on at compile time. In the final part of the book some practical illustrations of this methodology are presented, covering a number of problem structures.
