This is the first person account of a woman whose family left Vietnam during the fall of Saigon. There her family had been well-off. In the US, they were not. She recounts not only the flight from Vietnam but also her life growing up as a refugee in the US. Through hard work and determination, she overcame a number of obstacles to finally obtain PhD in Psychology and work with immigrants and survivors of sexual abuse. I particularly like the way she identified the gifts adversity had given her. Although the subject matter is at times difficult, the writing style is wonderfully easy to read. I enjoyed it immensely.
