For the duration of the 1980s and earlier, Bruce Kent has been one of Britain's most outspoken peace campaigners. As Chairman, and latterly President, of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, he has led resistance to the accumulation of weapons of mass destruction by the world's superpowers. This autobiography looks at his return to England after being evacuated to Canada, his National Service, his studies at Oxford and discovery of a vocation to the priesthood. A distinguished career in the Church followed, notably as chaplain to London University. He resigned in 1974 to lead Pax Christi. After a short return to parish life, he took up his position as General Secretary at CND. In the 1980s, he presided over the dramatic growth of the Campaign in the face of the introduction of Cruise missiles. Eventually, this led him into conflict with the Catholic Church. He left it and later married. This book is a record of the post-war years, seen not from the corridors of power, but from the freezing fence-side at Greenham, Molesworth and Faslane.
