Habitat survey work with the Wildlife Service (1977-86) encouraged a life-long interest in nature conservation, including a brief stint as founding chairman of the Irish Peatland Conservation Council, and helped him to develop the field skills necessary to later undertake a PhD on the phytosociology of blanket bog flush vegetation at National University of Ireland, Galway. He currently works with the National Parks and Wildlife Service where, as a research scientist, he is involved with the assessment, mapping and designation of sites of conservation interest, particularly SACs and NHAs. He lives in Dublin with his wife and two daughters. See less
