A thought-provoking insight into organ transplants
How Death Becomes Life is a fascinating, thought-provoking and often emotive insight into organ transplantation, past and present. The book contains a wealth of stories about the pioneers of organ transplantation, as well as first-hand accounts of present-day organ transplantation surgery. It also touches on ethical, legal and social issues relating to organ transplantation and ponders on potential advances in the field.
As an avid reader of medical non-fiction, I was keen to see how this book would compare to other books in this genre. I enjoyed the varied mix of surgical tales but found it hard to follow and visualise the author's detailed descriptions of surgical procedures at times. The historical accounts of organ transplantation were insightful but often felt too non-sequential for my liking.
Overall, this is an informative book and I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in medicine, particularly organ transplantation. However, it does contain some terminology and descriptions that may not be fully understood by the average reader.
