Lt. Gen. Ion Mihai Pacepa, the highest intelligence official ever to defect from the Soviet bloc, reviews the Kennedy assassination, reveals facts covered up by the Kremlin, and addresses questions left unanswered by official investigations and numerous books. Pacepa is the only investigator of the assassination who had direct knowledge of the KGB's ties to Lee Harvey Oswald. Programmed to Kill places Pacepa's knowledge about the KGB's secret involvement with Oswald in the context of factual reporting that has appeared on the case. The book juxtaposes the KGB modus operandi-mostly unknown to outsiders-against the irrefutable evidence assembled by the FBI and other U.S. investigators.

I bought the Russian propaganda for many years that the CIA and LBJ had something to do with JFK's death. Pacepa doesn't claim to have insider information about that particular historical event, but he does have intimate knowledge of how the KGB, PGU and VGU work from his days in the DIE.
I know what you're thinking. "If you think you know how those three-letter organizations work, you don't." And you're 100% right. But Pacepa never claims to know. In fact, he is very careful to qualify his statements correctly. "I suspect that ... " and "How it typically worked in those days..." and other qualifiers really present a great and cogent case for the assassination being a Soviet operation that went well or terribly, depending on who you ask, and when.
His other book, "Disinformation" was also very good. I am personally glad that I encountered and read this book.
